Best known as the road to Yosemite, highway 120 stretches from the central valley to the Nevada border. The road has small towns with gold-rush character, long stretches of open space, and sprawling central valley towns filled with strip malls and plastic food. Your main challenge here is on the return trip. If you leave Yosemite after about 7:30pm, all the decent places to eat will close just before you get to them.
