Phister's website has a guide on this exact topic, and even a video on how to install the parts. They write:
Self Closing Handle: If your faucet was purchased after 2004 and the handle automatically shuts your water off when you let go of the handle, the retainer ring needs to be replaced/tightened.
If your faucet was purchased in or before 2004, and the handle automatically shuts your water off when you let go of the handle, the cartridge and retainer ring need to be replaced.
