After suffering for months with a kitchen faucet that turned itself off, I sought a solution. A local plumbing supply house provided the answer: Phister single handle faucets are well known for this problem and a fix is available. Best of all the fix is free.
Phister has three parts available to correct the problem. There is a new brass nut to replace the plastic one in the orginal design, a lighter weight handle, and a stronger cartridge.
Call Phister at 1-800-PFAUCET, and identify your model. For my faucet the proper parts were:
Self Closing Handle: If your faucet was purchased after 2004 and the handle automatically shuts your water off when you let go of the handle, the retainer ring needs to be replaced/tightened.
If your faucet was purchased in or before 2004, and the handle automatically shuts your water off when you let go of the handle, the cartridge and retainer ring need to be replaced.
